Whether you’ve been saving breastmilk in your freezer for a few months or several years, it can be transformed into a beautiful keepsake you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
If you’ve been holding onto those last few bags because you simply couldn’t bear to throw them away, you’re certainly not alone. In fact, that’s exactly how Roselynn & Rayne began.
Is Frozen Breastmilk Okay to Use for my Breastmilk Jewelry?
Absolutely.
Frozen breastmilk is one of the most common types of milk I receive. Every mother’s milk is unique, and whether it’s fresh or frozen, I can preserve it into a beautiful stone for your keepsake.
The age of the milk, slight color changes, or separation that naturally occurs while frozen
isn’t a problem. If you’re ever unsure about your specific milk, I’m always happy to answer your questions before you place an order.
How Much Frozen Breastmilk Do I Need?
One of the biggest surprises for many moms is how little breastmilk is actually needed.
In most cases, approximately one ounce is enough to create your keepsake.
If you’re ordering multiple pieces, I may recommend sending a little extra to ensure there’s enough for each design. In most cases 10-15 ml ( about half an oz) is plenty for your keepsake and enough to have left over.

Does Freezer Burn Matter?
Many moms worry because their oldest bags don’t look the same as they did when they were first frozen or that they will spoil once in their stone. However, I have GREAT news! As soon as your breastmilk gets to me it is put under a preservation process where it will NEVER go bad.
That slight discoloration or freezer burn is often completely normal and usually doesn’t prevent your breastmilk from being preserved into jewelry. If you have concerns about your stored milk, feel free to reach out before placing your order.
How Should I Store My Breastmilk Before Shipping?
If your breastmilk is already frozen, simply thaw it to room temp before sending it out through the mail. Get as much air out of the bag as possible and double bag it in a couple ziplocks to ensure there is no leakage and then mail it in a padded envelope.
Following the shipping instructions included with your order will help ensure it arrives safely.
What If My Breastmilk Is Several Years Old?
Many mothers save their final bags of breastmilk for years before deciding they’re ready to create a keepsake. Your frozen 10+ year old milk you found sitting at the bottom of your deep freezer is PERFECT milk for your breastmilk jewelry.
Whether your breastfeeding journey ended recently or years ago, your milk can still be used to create a meaningful piece of jewelry.
Every situation is unique, so if you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Why Mothers Save Their Last Bags of Breastmilk:
For many mothers, those final bags in the freezer represent so much more than milk.
They’re late-night feedings.
Sleepy cuddles.
The first year of your baby’s life.
Months of pumping.
Sacrifice.
Love.
It is so incredibly hard to throw all of that away. At Roselynn and Rayne, we know how terrifying it can be to give someone your very last bag of milk so we actually save all left over preserved breastmilk in case you would ever like another piece made with it in the future. Every preserved bag of milk is labelled with your first/last name and order number/phone number through the whole process to ensure we keep track of every single bag.
When my own breastfeeding journey came to an end after exclusively nursing my youngest daughter for 14 months, I couldn’t bring myself to throw away the last few bags I had saved. That experience is what inspired me to learn how to preserve breastmilk and eventually create Roselynn & Rayne. I have been honored to make breastmilk and cremation jewelry out of my home in Illinois and provide all of my local mamas with breastmilk jewelry of their very own and throught the US.
Today, I have the privilege of helping other mothers preserve those same memories in a keepsake they can wear every day.
